Wintry winter

By dint of feeding the woodburner full bore for the last twelve hours, we have convinced the temperature at the top end of the house to rise to 16c/60F. Given that it's currently 4C/39F outside I guess it could be worse.

Bro-in-the-South sent me a nice pic on his cellphone of the white stuff on his street this morning.

Tonight is a good night for a roast meal - lamb, roasted spuds, assorted green veges, mint sauce. Also, I am sending son out for the firewood because what else are strong young men for? Or even weedy young men?

It's warmed up a smidge today, but it would've needed to. We went through a good chunk of our wood this week, that's for sure. At least it's drier out here today.

It's about 24C down here in the dining room with the woodburner going all day, but our bedroom will be around 13C.

I am very disappointed though. Dunedin has all that snow and all we got 90 minutes drive north was a few flurries that disappeared on landing.

Yes, I understand that the supposedly winterless north got more than a hint of cold air this last week.

Brrr! I don't do well at all with the cold and with snow/ice; I live in hot, arid W. Texas and right now we're having highs of 98 degrees F. everyday; which is maybe a bit too much of a good summer thing, sigh. Fall is my fave time here, it's just cold enough for a jacket in the morn and maybe high 70's/low 80's by late afternoon.

NZ doesn't really do air-con, so winter is easier to deal with in some ways. Get yourself a good woodburner and a big shed of firewood and you're sweet. :-) Summer is easier but stickier if those aren't an option.

It was wet wet wet out here, but yes, the snow was very pretty, and also very inconvenient for some parts of the country. The Central Plateau towns and resorts had an 'interesting' couple of days.

We do a variety of geography here, but even for our Central Plateau area that was a notable dump of snow. At least we only had the cold, not the white stuff itself.
